From a press release:
Manchester, Tenn. — August 25, 2014 — Reusing and recycling are part of Bonnaroo’s DNA, and festival organizers have shown their green colors once again while supporting local schools. Just in time for back-to-school, Bonnaroo Works Fund Director Nina Miller recently delivered 4,000 Bonnaroo-themed lunch boxes to school officials, one for every student in the Coffee County School district.
The W.O. Smith Music School in Nashville, which provides affordable, quality music instruction to low-income families, will also receive 500 lunch boxes – one for each student.
“We had retro lunchboxes produced for promotional materials this spring and had some left over,” explained Miller. “What better use than to give them to Coffee and Davidson County children? They are great for lunch or as a place to store school supplies, and we thought the kids would appreciate the hip factor.”
On a more serious note, the BWF will also be donating several thousand new, age-appropriate books to Coffee County School libraries through its partnership with First Book (www.firstbook.org), a non-profit that distributes high quality books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income families in the United States and Canada.
“Along with the whimsy of the lunch boxes, we also wanted to show once again our commitment to education in Coffee County,” said Miller. “First Book and the Bonnaroo Works Fund are working together to support literacy efforts in our home community.”
The Bonnaroo Works Fund, (BWF, www.BonnarooWorksFund.org), the charitable arm of the world-renowned Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, supports the arts, education and environmental causes. BWF is a component of the East Tennessee Foundation (ETF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which administers the fund. An independent panel of judges selects recipients based on need, mission and the specific use of funding.
