From a press release:
New Mountain opens upstairs bar and brings in local nonprofit for weekly gig
Taking advantage of vast square footage and a deep talent pool in the music industry, New Mountain will open their upstairs bar on Thursday October 23 with the FATE Jam. This series will be every Thursday night and hosted by Funding America Through Entertainment’s (FATE) Executive Director, Josh Stack. The jam will recruit local acts and possibly some touring acts to anchor the evening and back fill throughout the night with other local musicians rotating through. Guest musicians and patrons alike are asked to contribute to an ongoing food drive when attending the FATE Jam.
“Josh used to play professionally in this town and all over the country, which is one way he developed a name for himself,” explains New Mountain co-owner, Brandon Raab. Venue owners are also keen to take advantage of FATE’s involvement in the rock n roll philanthropy world. “FATE has done a good job of working with musicians, venues, and businesses to help provide tens of thousands of dollars in hunger relief and we’re excited to do our part to keep the effort going and get the word out,” continues Raab.
While this wont be considered an “open jam,” there will be plenty of opportunities for local musicians to showcase their talents. “One of my favorite nights to see music in town is Tuesday because I can see the best Asheville pickers at the Isis early and the best funk and jazz players later at the Music Hall, and it’s free,” says Stack. “I’d like the FATE Jam to do something similar and provide a meaningful outlet for talented musicians to express themselves musically and philanthropically,” says FATE’s ED, Josh Stack
The FATE Jam kicks off the opening of the upstairs bar of New Mountain which will be open evenings, thereafter. The jam starts at 8 p.m. and all attendees are asked to bring a small donation of canned goods or a cash substitute.
