Cataloochee Ranch in Maggie Valley is known for horseback riding, mountain hikes and wagon rides, but it’s also home to many of the region’s most vocal songbirds. These winged beauties need your help and the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy is ready and willing to lend a hand.
SAHC will host a volunteer workday on Saturday, July 28, to improve the song birds’ habitat and improve an eroded section of horse and hiking trails. Volunteers will be greeted by spectacular views and camaraderie between like-minded environmentalists.
Complimentary lunch and snacks will be offered during this free volunteer experience, and the only requirement is an advance registration. Wear clothes that can get dirty, bring water and sunscreen and don’t forget a rain jacket. The ranch is full of livestock that can get startled by dogs, so please leave family pets at home.
To register, contact Margot Wallston at margot@appalachian.org or 253-0095, ext. 212. RSVP is requested by July 26 and directions will be provided upon registration.
