At its meeting tonight, September 25, Asheville City Council will consider extending city water to residents living near the contaminated former CTS of Asheville site and authorizing a deal for a private company to manage the municipal golf course, among other matters.
The extension of city water — long demanded by residents in the area who fear spreading groundwater contamination — is part of a deal with Buncombe County. The county is pursuing a $3 million loan from the state, while the city is waiving all permit and application fees for setting up the lines.
Council will also vote on a deal for Pope Golf to take over operation of the municipal golf course for seven years. On Aug. 28, Council approved a resolution allowing city staff to work out the details of such a deal, and now those terms are back for final approval.
Also on the agenda are approval of signs for a subdivision on Lyman Street, as well as reports on the 10-year Plan to End Homelessness, the Tree Commission, and the ABC Board.
Asheville City Council’s Sept. 25 meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in Council’s chambers on the second floor of City Hall.
