After a few weeks of guest hosts, Jeff Messer took his place behind the mic for the first time yesterday as the new host of his own show on Clear Channel’s 880 AM the Revolution. No longer known as Local Edge Radio (the brainchild of Blake Bulter and Lesley Groetsch), The Jeff Messer Show takes over the 3-6 p.m. time slot.
“I want to bring Asheville and all of its wonders into my show, giving you all a platform and a voice for smart, fun, insightful and stimulating conversations about everything Asheville and beyond. No topic is off the table here. No voice is turned away,” Messer writes in his first blog post appropriately titled “So I Guess I’m The New Guy.”
This is Messer’s first radio gig, but he’s no stranger to being in the spotlight. The Waynesville native previously worked as a professional actor, ran his own theater company and wrote more than 25 scripts as a playwright. However, in 2006 he submitted an audition tape for a radio talk show contest held by 880, The Revolution and came in second place.
At the end of his introductory post he offers an invitation to the community. “Here’s my invitation to all of you: make this your radio show, not mine. Inspire me, drive me, laugh with me, challenge me and let’s make something special that we can all be proud of.”

I was fortunate enough to be a guest on Jeff’s first show yesterday. He’s got big shoes to fill, but I think he’s going to do great – Asheville’s lucky to have him on the air.
Congrats Jeff! Break a leg, & all that theater talk…
