from The Genesis Alliance

On Friday, April 19, the Tenth Annual Genesis Alliance Luncheon will be held at the Asheville Renaissance Hotel. This year the keynote speaker will be Geoff Sidoli, MSW, LCSW, Clinical Director Barium Springs, who will discuss the neuroscience and effects of trauma on the brain and public health issues associated with violence in the home. Prior to taking over as clinical director, Geoff worked with victims and perpetrators of sexual abuse for over 17 years. Barium Springs (www.bariumsprings,org) has been serving the mental health needs and providing hope for children, families and individuals since 1891. The nonprofit organization serves 41 counties in Western North Carolina. He continues to conduct psychosexual trauma assessments for children and adolescents with problematic sexual behaviors, Sex Offense Specific Evaluations for adults and juveniles, and training and consultation to local and state organizations.

A silent auction precedes the luncheon with the proceeds to benefit the Genesis Alliance Scholarship Program and Fund. This organization seeks to raise awareness of the issue of domestic violence. To raise money for the organization, a number of exciting items–lovely jewelry, including 3 strands of high end pearls, beauty care packages (facial treatments, botox, dermabrasion, massages), hotel stays (Grove Park Inn, Hilton Hotel), sports activities, and delicious cakes and pastries–are all up for bidding in the silent auction, which starts at 11 a.m. This event is open to the public.

Tickets to the luncheon start at $75 for an individual, through various levels of table sponsorship up to $5000 for a Presenting sponsor. To purchase tickets or sponsor a table and learn more, visit, www.genesisalliance.org or call Hellen Goldfarb at (828) 274-4064. From its first luncheon in 2003 through today, the Genesis Alliance, along with heartfelt community support, has raised over $325,000 to help those whose lives have been uprooted by domestic violence and child abuse. The Genesis Alliance has given a significant amount of money to a number of organizations, such as Helpmate, CAPS, Pisgah Legal Services, Mission Children’s Hospital Child Abuse Center, OUR Voice–Sexual Violence Support and Prevention Agency, Women at Risk, WCCJ, and CARING for Children.
