Troy and Rob: We’re glad you care enough about Xpress to write us about what’s missing or overdone. In these post-recession times, the paper is slightly smaller than it used to be, which means we often make tough decisions about what to include or exclude (such as Tom Tomorrow). But we’ll have to differ on a few points: Our beer and food scene are thriving. We’d be remiss if we neglected to cover those beats.
As for environmental news and diversity and all those “human survival” things, we published an 88-page Sustainability Issue in April, letting local experts, activists and citizens voice their thoughts on the topic. This week, we feature the recent March Against Monsanto in our opinion section (go to mountainx.com/environment for more). We dug into local efforts to acknowledge Buncombe’s slave history (“Bought and Sold”) and explored the coming revival of downtown Asheville’s South Slope area (our food writer tackled that one). We cover state news, when many large and small media outlets don’t cover it at all (mountainx.com/ncmatters).
