News 13 holds June 19 discussion on same sex marriange

ASHEVILLE – The Supreme Court is expected to make an imminent decision on the federal Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8. North Carolina is one of 30 states that have approved constitutional bans on gay marriage. Same sex marriage is legal in 12 states and the District of Columbia. In addition, eight states offer civil unions or domestic-partnership provisions for same-sex couples. WLOS/WMYA is holding a Town Hall Meeting to discuss Same Sex Marriage Wednesday, June 19 from 7:30pm to 9pm at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center in Fletcher.

News 13’s Darcel Grimes and Behind the Headlines commentator Mark Hyman, will host panelists and a live audience for the Gay Marriage Town Hall Meeting. Audience members will be able to interact with panelists in favor of, and against, same sex marriage. Tickets are free, but space is limited and you must register at wlos.com to reserve your spot. Doors open Wednesday at 6pm. If you can’t make it out to the event, you can join the conversation at www.facebook.com/News13 or tweet questions and comments using hashtag #wlostownhall. The WLOS/WMYA Town Hall Meeting on same sex marriage will also be streamed live on wlos.com.
