Registration Now Open For Asheville Regional Airport’s Third Annual Runway 5K
Runners, take your mark for Asheville Regional Airport’s (AVL) third annual Runway 5K on Saturday, September 21.
Join the 1,000 participants who are expected to run, walk or jog the AVL runway and taxiway, which makes up the entire course. Racers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the airport. In addition, if family members and friends attend with 5K participants, they will be able to view local aircraft on display during the race and even watch the race near the runway.
All proceeds of the Runway 5K will support community-based educational aviation charities, the Western North Carolina Air Museum, the WNC Pilots Association Scholarship Fund and also help develop a traveling aviation-themed exhibit for children.
“We are excited to bring together the community for another race on the runway, which is a good time for the whole family,” said Tina Kinsey, Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “This 5K is perfect for people of all ages – we’ve seen racers from ages four to 84, all enjoying this unique event.”
Early registration for the race is $25 until August 9. Registration will be $30 from August 10 to September 19 and day before registration or walk up registration will be $40.
Participants are guaranteed a T-shirt with registration through August 16 and a limited number of shirts will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis for later registrants.
Race winners in different categories will be awarded prizes. The grand prize is a chance to win free airfare, awarded to one randomly drawn adult racer at the end of the event.
“AVL is our region’s airport, and this is one way we can celebrate aviation with those we serve,” said Kinsey. “It’s one of our favorite days of the year at the airport.”
