Independent music organization NewSong, which relocated to Asheville from Brooklyn, N.Y. last year, has announced a partnership with local entrepreneurial advocate Venture Asheville (a division of the Asheville-Buncombe County Economic Development Coalition).
“By teaming up, what NewSong and Venture Asheville aim to do is connect the dots between musicians, songwriters, producers, instrument manufacturers and others who may be new to the scene or less well known — or who don’t know each other,” says a press release. “Additionally, by shining a spotlight on companies, groups and individuals who are living and working here while doing remarkable things in the music industry, they hope to attract music-related type businesses to Asheville to further fuel the creative economy.”
NewSong is currently based out of Echo Mountain Recording Studios. Its brand “includes a record label, an international performance and songwriting competition, several performance series and industry workshops.” According to press, NewSong is currently working on an Asheville concert series for this fall, and hopes to “expand its own footprint while also helping fledgling businesses in the area.”
Pam Lewis, Venture Asheville’s Director of Entrepreneurship says, “Another initiative on the horizon for the two organizations aims to help by providing outreach, education and unification within the local music community. Plans are in the works to form a foundation, led by area professionals, to tackle everything from raising public awareness, advocating and amplifying the creative voice.”
