Local apparel company Appalatch, featured in this Xpress story: http://www.mountainx.com/article/49576/Sustainable-style , has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of the world’s first 3D printed sweaters. The sweaters will be knit to the exact specifications of the wearer, ensuring a perfect fit. Plus, the 3D printing means no waste (20-30% of fabric is thrown away in typical manufacturing). And, in true Appalatch style, they’ll be made from sustainable, USA-sourced materials. The custom sweaters require a special knitting machine, hence the fundraiser.
The apparel company launched its Kickstarter just last week and has already made 25-percent of its goal. Incentives for backers include cotton T-shirts, wool T-shirts and custom-made sweaters.
