Ten Thousand Villages to host community benefit for Dining for Women

Asheville, NC– Ten Thousand Villages in Asheville is hosting a Community Shopping Benefit for Dining for Women in celebration of Women’s Friendship Day. Dining for Women is a global giving circle that funds grassroots programs working in developing countries to fight gender inequality. On Saturday, September 26th, ten percent of sales at Ten Thousand Villages will be donated to Dining for Women’s 13th Month Campaign. Additionally, from 4 until 6pm, a Chapter Meet and Greet will provide the opportunity for current and prospective members of Dining for Women to connect with each other.

“Ten Thousand Villages and Dining for Women share a common mission of poverty alleviation, empowerment creation, and advancement opportunities in developing countries,” said Sara Martin, Ten Thousand Villages in Asheville, assistant store manager. “By supporting these organizations, through a fair trade purchase or through a donation, you are making a significant difference in the lives of women and girls around the world.”

The Asheville area boasts more than five chapters of Dining for Women, one of which meets the 2nd Friday of every month at Ten Thousand Villages. With humble beginnings in Greenville, SC, Dining for Women is now a nationally recognized non-profit organization with far-reaching, global implications. The 13th Month Campaign is a crucial part of Dining for Women, providing support to the daily operations of the organization.
