Rick from ROCK 104.9 FM discusses why the station is moving to 109.1 FM on the radio dial on his blog. Here’s an excerpt and a video explaining the change:
Why are we moving from 104.9 to 105.1 on the FM dial? Good question. It is, after all, quite the undertaking. Simply put, it was the only way we could reach more people.
For years, I have heard from listeners and businesses with the same refrain…”I can’t pick you up where I am, or I’d listen. Can’t you just turn up the power?”
I wish it were that simple. The fact is, the governmental agency known as the FCC controls the airwaves, and determines who broadcasts where on what frequency, to with how much power. A while back, we attempted a technical (and legal) manuever to boost out coverage area to no avail. So after exhausting every other possibility, this was the only real option.
To execute this plan, we had to physically construct a new tower. But before embarking on that adventure, we had to tear down an existing tower so we could use the that footprint. And the tower that came down was one of the first to be erected in Western North Carolina, that of WWNC. We recorded the process for posterity.
Sure got quite in Haywood County. Now we listen to FM from Tennessee.
