Woodfin and Black Mountain named among safest cities in the state by the Safe Wise Reports

Press release from the Town of Woodfin:

For the second year in a row Woodfin has been named one of the top 20 Safest Cities in North Carolina by The Safe Wise Report. Improving on last year’s position by moving up to the 14th spot from number 20 last year the Woodfin Police Department has been recognized for making the Town of Woodfin a safe place to live, work and play.

“Obviously we’re proud to be recognized for our efforts,” said Woodfin Police Chief Brett Holloman, “but we’re even prouder of the fact that the police department has been able to help maintain the safe, small town feel that is so important to our citizens. The only reason we’re able to do that is because of the deep support from the citizens and our elected leadership.”

The improved ranking by The Safe Wise Report falls in line with other recent analysis by safety ranking organizations like CreditDonkey which describes Woodfin as being, “About five minutes from downtown Asheville, Woodfin is a dream for anyone who’s looking for a safe, serene place to call home. The city is nestled along the French Broad River, which provides a picturesque backdrop for raising children, starting a business, or enjoying your golden years. Woodfin gets high marks for its low crime rate….” (CreditDonkey.com).

Woodfin Mayor Jerry VeHaun commented, “I’d just like to echo what the Chief said about how critical it is to the success of any police department to have the support of the community they serve. The people of Woodfin have always supported our first responders and in an atmosphere where the public is really supportive its easier for our department to recruit and retain high quality law enforcement officers and that helps us keep our community safe from violence and theft.”

The Town of Black Mountain was also ranked in the top 20 by both organizations.
