Buncombe County Farm Service Agency committee nominations due August 1

Press release:

FSA COUNTY COMMITTEE NOMINATION DEADLINE

Charles E. Zink, County Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Buncombe County, today reminds farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers that they have only a few days left to meet the Monday, August 1, 2016, deadline to nominate eligible candidates to serve on the Buncombe County FSA county committee. FSA is accepting nominations for candidates to serve on the County Committee from the Alexander, Barnardsville, Jupiter, Reems Creek and Weaverville Communities (Area Two).

I have seen how county committees play a vital role in the administration of federal farm programs and the positive effect they have on rural communities,” says Zink. “I encourage all producers to make a difference by nominating eligible candidates to serve on these important committees.”

FSA county committees make decisions on commodity price support loans, conservation programs, disaster programs, employing county executive directors and other significant agricultural issues.

All nominees must sign nomination form FSA-669A, which includes a statement that the nominee agrees to serve if elected. You may request a nomination form from the Madison/Buncombe County FSA Office. All nomination forms for the 2016 election must be postmarked or received in the local USDA Service Center by close of business on August 1. Individuals may nominate themselves or others as candidates. Additionally, organizations representing minorities and women may nominate candidates.

FSA will mail ballots to producers beginning November 7, 2016. The voted ballots are due back to the local county office either via mail or in person by December 5, 2016. Newly elected committee members and alternates take office January 1, 2017.
