Park Service announces upcoming hikes on the Parkway

Special after hours hike, “Adventurous Eats”:

Join Parkway rangers at 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 25th for an easy to moderate, 2 mile round-trip hike that is right in Asheville’s backyard. Nothing says fresh food like harvesting it yourself straight from the source. Come learn some do’s and don’ts of foraging for wild edibles along the Parkway.

Meet at the Walnut Cove Overlook Parking Area at Milepost 396.4.

Bring water and a flashlight, wear good walking shoes, and be prepared for changeable weather.

Hike of the week, “Happy Birthday, National Park Service!”:

Join Parkway rangers at 10:00 am on Friday, August 26th for a moderate, 1 mile hike to the top of spectacular Devil’s Courthouse. The National Park Service turns 100 this year and we want everyone to help us celebrate! Come learn about our rich history and win prizes for your park knowledge as we commemorate the Centennial and 100 years of protecting America’s special places.

Meet at the Devil’s Courthouse Overlook at Milepost 424. Bring water, wear sturdy shoes or boots, and prepare for changeable weather.
