Learn how the trees and understory begin to change as fall approaches as well as how trail safety and encroachment issues affect the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Meet immediately south of the U.S. 74A bridge, located at Milepost 384.7. Bring water and a flashlight, wear sturdy shoes or boots, and prepare for changing weather.
Blue Ridge Parkway Hike of the Week
“Nature’s Road Trip”Join Parkway rangers at 10:00 am on Friday, September 2nd for a moderate, 2.2 mile round-trip hike. Many of us dream of going somewhere warm for the winter and some animals get to do exactly that with migration. But who gets to migrate and what compels them to travel hundreds or thousands of miles from home? Are the animals having beach parties without us? Come along to learn the answers to these questions and more!
Meet at Big Ridge Overlook, Milepost 403.6. Wear good hiking shoes, bring water, and be prepared for changeable weather.
For more information on either of these hikes, contact 828-298-5330, ext. 304.
