From Hands On! Museum:
Hands On!, the children’s museum in Downtown Hendersonville, is pleased to announce the opening of MAKERSPACE, made possible by Exxon Mobil. Makerspaces are mentor-led learning environments where children use real tools and materials to encourage curiosity. Guests tinker, repurpose, upcycle, take apart and put back together to make a creation or discovery all their own. These programs strengthen community-based learning, particularly for critical thinking, problem solving and engagement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
MAKERSPACE at Hands On! will take place in the STEAM Room, located just outside the Main Street museum entrance. Children and adults are invited to use their imaginations to design and build creations such as Franken toys, robots, and more! Makerspace will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in October and November. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This exhibit is free with $5 admission/free for members. Additional group times and discounted group rates are available.
“This is the 6th year that Exxon Mobil has supported our community through Hands On! as part of its support of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education in the U.S. We are proud to be recognized by a reputable business such as Exxon Mobil for our accomplishments in science education,” says Heather Boeke, Executive Director of Hands On!.
Hands On! is a children’s museum with the mission to provide “hands on” educational experiences that stimulate the imagination and motivate learning in a fun, safe environment. They accomplish this mission teaching interactive programs and classes in schools, at community events, and in their facility located at 318 N. Main Street. Hands On! is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00-5:00. You can visit their website at handsonwnc.org or call 697-8333 for further information on the museum or booking a group to attend the MAKERSPACE.
