Press release from Our Voice:
Our VOICE, in partnership with French Broad Outfitters, will hold its first annual Our VOICE River Ride a festival of outdoor river-sports that promotes safe spaces on the water, trail and everywhere. The family-friendly festival will start at 4 p.m. on Sept. 9 at French Broad Outfitters’ Hominy Creek’s location, 230 Hominy Creek Road, Asheville.
The River Ride festival will raise awareness about the issue of sexual violence in our community and how the community can help in the prevention of it in an effort to create safe spaces everywhere — whether hiking, climbing, biking or floating down the river. The festival will highlight Our VOICE’s outdoor adventure and prevention programming for middle school students in Buncombe County, including Climbing Toward Confidence and Backpacking Brothers, promoting respect, healthy boundaries, personal confidence and leadership.
French Broad Outfitters will be providing 50 percent off float trips down the Biltmore section of the French Broad. The River Ride festival features live music by Noah Proudfoot, delicious food from Deli Llammma food truck, a raffle, hammocks for relaxing river views and locally crafted brews. There is a $10 suggested donation to Our VOICE for all adults and admission is free for kids. Proceeds from the River Ride will support Our VOICE’s programming.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with French Broad Outfitters to shed light on how our community can be part of the solution in creating sexual violence-free spaces everywhere,” said Angélica R. Wind, Executive Director of Our VOICE Inc.
