The Toy Box to close on Dec. 22

Press release from The Toy Box:

The Toy Box, located on Merrimon Avenue in Asheville, has provided joy to the Asheville community and been a favorite place for children and adults alike for over 30 years. On Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, “Mr. Gary,” aka Gary Green the beloved store owner, is retiring and the store will be closing.

Known as “The place to begin your child’s journey into imagination,” The Toy Box has become a community favorite, with a friendly and welcoming environment that inspires and excites children of all ages. The store has offered locally made products, as well as national brands such as Playmobil, Ravensburger, Thomas the Tank Engine and more. Additionally, the Toy Box has donated toys to families in need and given back to many community nonprofits and causes.

Fans and avid shoppers at The Toy Box have expressed that this store is unlike any other.

“Best place to buy toys in Asheville. Best place to buy toys – period!” – Tomas Theodore Graser, Online Review

“Best toy store in Asheville, for children and adults alike”. – Lisa Wulf, Online Review

“Gary, and ALL his staff, always greet me and makes sure I find whatever I need or am looking for! I love this store! Plus you can get free gift wrapping! Once you visit, you will be returning; I promise. A wonderful and local store in our community.”- Sharon Rogers Miall, Online Review

To liquidate inventory, The Toy Box will be having a storewide closing sale from Nov. 22 through Dec. 22, with discounts from 10-50% off the entire store inventory. This is perfect timing, as families will have the opportunity to take advantage of the discounts to find the perfect gifts for their children this holiday season.

Many are sad to see The Toy Box go, as they grew up enjoying visits to and wonderful toys from the store.

“I have taken my kids there since we first moved to Weaverville 14 years ago. Gary was always personable and made me feel welcome, even on days when we would play there for hours. I am sad to hear I won’t be able to shop for my future grandchildren there, but his retirement is well deserved.” – Ami Irish Green, on Facebook

But, surviving thirty years despite consumer trends towards buying toys and goods online, is quite a feat. And “Mr. Gary” and the contribution he has made to Asheville should be celebrated!
