The Toy Box, located on Merrimon Avenue in Asheville, has provided joy to the Asheville community and been a favorite place for children and adults alike for over 30 years. On Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, “Mr. Gary,” aka Gary Green the beloved store owner, is retiring and the store will be closing.
Known as “The place to begin your child’s journey into imagination,” The Toy Box has become a community favorite, with a friendly and welcoming environment that inspires and excites children of all ages. The store has offered locally made products, as well as national brands such as Playmobil, Ravensburger, Thomas the Tank Engine and more. Additionally, the Toy Box has donated toys to families in need and given back to many community nonprofits and causes.
Fans and avid shoppers at The Toy Box have expressed that this store is unlike any other.

To liquidate inventory, The Toy Box will be having a storewide closing sale from Nov. 22 through Dec. 22, with discounts from 10-50% off the entire store inventory. This is perfect timing, as families will have the opportunity to take advantage of the discounts to find the perfect gifts for their children this holiday season.
Many are sad to see The Toy Box go, as they grew up enjoying visits to and wonderful toys from the store.

But, surviving thirty years despite consumer trends towards buying toys and goods online, is quite a feat. And “Mr. Gary” and the contribution he has made to Asheville should be celebrated!
