Months in the planning and years in the making, Asheville’s Tenth Bookfest on Saturday, April 13, at Asheville Outlets, 800 Brevard Road, marks a milestone for the annual bibliophile’s bash. Admission is free, and patrons are welcome to browse a variety of books offered for sale by vendors and participate in programs, workshops and discussions at the day-long event, which kicks off at 11 a.m. and runs through 6 p.m.
“This is our ninth event over a ten-year span. We have held it at five different locations in the past. and have constantly have searched for better customer traffic, venue scheduling, and costs. We hope Asheville Outlets is our permanent location, and this one promises to be the best on all counts,” said Micki Cabaniss, executive director of Grateful Steps Foundation and Bookfest organizer.
“This year, we have had the best planning committee ever. Many on the committee are publishers, and Western North Carolina Publishers have been friends for years, helping each other serve the area with quality books,” she added.
At press time, participating vendors included John Gordon, Laura Camby McCaskill, Angie Evans, Andy Reed, Barbara Duncan, Joe Longobardi, Lee Pantas, Ryan Gray, Chris Yavelow, Wayne Cox, Larry Morgan, Don Harris, Jason Stokes, Marci Spencer, Rachael Sparks, and Mirra Price. In addition to browsing works on display by Bookfest authors, customers may attend a variety of programs, seminars and workshops throughout the day. The schedule (subject to change) is as follows:

Susan Reinhardt, former Asheville Citizen-Times columnist and author of Chimes from a Cracked Southern Belle, always delights any audience with her presence.
PREVENTION OF BULLYING, 4:20-5 p.m.
Angela Evans, author of Invisible: Fiction but Painfully True, and Madelyn Lantz, author of The Singing Pool, will moderate an interactive discussion about the prevention of bullying.
TALKING TO YOUR CHILD: PREVENTING ADDITION, 5-5:30 p.m.
Ryan Gray, whose Twilight in York is currently in production, will lead an informative and interactive discussion with parents.
Grateful Steps Foundation was formed in 2004 with a mission to “help people enrich their lives through publishing.” In addition to publication of dozens of titles by local and regional authors, the Foundation hosts monthly artists’ displays and an interfaith dialogue.
