Alzheimer’s Association to host legal and financial workshop Oct. 7

The Alzheimer’s Association – Western Carolina Chapter will be holding a legal and financial workshop in collaboration with Lakeview Center For Active Aging.

“Legal and Financial Issues” will take place on Monday, Oct. 7 from 11-11:45 a.m. at Lakeview Center For Active Aging, located at 401 Laurel Circle Drive in Black Mountain. This is a program where those impacted by a dementia diagnosis will have a chance to learn about important legal and financial issues to consider, how to put plans in place, and how to access nearby legal and financial resources. The workshop is free and open to the general public, as well as individuals with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and related dementia diseases, their families and care partners. Professionals interested in learning more about planning, resources, and services that are available may also attend.

“The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease makes planning for the future more important than ever,” said Katherine L. Lambert, CEO of the Western Carolina Chapter. “This is one of the many program we offer to let those impacted by Alzheimer’s know that we are here for them from the beginning of a diagnosis and throughout their journey with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.”

Every 65 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s.
An estimated 5.8 million Americans are living with the disease, including 170,000 North Carolina residents, are living with Alzheimer’s, a number estimated to grow to as many as 14 million by year 2050.
More than 16 million family and friends, including 473,000 in North Carolina, provide unpaid care to people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias in the United States.
In 2018, friends and family of those with Alzheimer’s in North Carolina provided an estimated 538 million hours of unpaid care, a contribution valued at $6.8 billion.
