The Congregational Church of Tryon, United Church of Christ, will welcome speaker Dr. Salma Stoman of the Islamic Speakers Bureau in Atlanta. The subject of the first talk is American Muslims: Beliefs and Practices and provides an overview of Muslim beliefs, demographics, practices and common misconceptions about Islam and Muslims. The second talk will be on Muslim Women: Past, Present, and Future and examines the role of women in Islam and showcases important Muslim women in history and the modern world.
Dr. Stoman has been a certified speaker with the Islamic Speakers Bureau since 2008 and earned the ISB Speaker of the Year Award in 2011. She tailors each presentation to her audiences and presents often in educational and religious institutions. She believes strongly in the power of knowledge, truth, and in giving back to the community.
Come for one talk or both. Lunch will be provided during the break. Suggested donation of $10 per talk with lunch included. Students are free.
The Beloved Community Event series at the Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, is an ongoing gathering of food, fellowship, and exploring faith. Events are held throughout the year to connect us with those doing good in the community, matters of interest for our world and neighborhood, and to provide opportunities to learn and explore our faith, creation, and community.
