TheatreUNCA will perform an entirely student-run production of She Kills Monsters, a fantasy play written by award-winning playwright Qui Nguyen, with four performances in UNC Asheville’s Carol Belk Theatre. Directed by UNC Asheville senior drama student Lea Gilbert, the show will premiere Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m., with evening performances running until Saturday, Nov. 16. One matinee will be offered at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17.
She Kills Monsters follows the story of Agnes, a young teacher who is dealing with the recent death of her sister Tilly. When Agnes discovers Tilly’s love for the classic game Dungeons and Dragons and begins playing in her fantasy world, Agnes begins to feel closer to her sister than ever. By battling monsters and meeting new friends along the way, Tilly reveals to Agnes an unknown part of her. This heartwarming story explores family, love and sexuality and is recommended for anyone who loves Dungeons and Dragons or who dreams of escape to a fantasy world.
This show is also recommended for ages 16 and over, and parental discretion is advised.
The all-student cast and crew includes: Luke Ainsworth, Megan Almond, Nora Bierce, Matty Blatt, Rebecca Boyce, Madelyn DePodesta, Mara Gevaudan, Lea Gilbert, Aubrie Holcomb, Tori Isenhour, Alex Levine, Kaylee Long, Dakota Mann, Kristen McCauley, Ryan Miller, Gabriel Nicholson, Carmen Rapé, Maxwell Roberts, Sarah Sheek, Ellen Smykowski, Bri Stewart, Mae Tesh, Arthur Verde, Alyssa Vincent, Cherokee Watko, Frances Van Woglom and Anna Zurliene.
She Kills Monsters is performed with special permission from Samuel French, Inc., A Concord Theatricals Company.
Tickets may be purchased at the box office at the Carol Belk Theatre on campus or online through at drama.unca.edu. Prices are: $7 for students, OLLI members and UNC Asheville alumni; $10 for faculty and senior citizens and general admission is $12.
Parking lot P27 will be reserved for handicapped parking only due to construction on campus, where ushers will be available to guide those with mobility challenges to the theater. Located near the theater, lots P25 and P13 will be available for parking.
Visitors may park in faculty/staff and non-resident lots from 5 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. on Monday through Friday, on weekends, holidays and campus breaks. Visitors are not permitted to park in resident student lots at any time. All available parking on campus can be viewed at maps.unca.edu.
