Local small-business owner, Tourism Development Board member, and community organizer Andrew Celwyn will be running for the Democratic nomination for Buncombe County Commission Chair.
Andrew is running for County Commission because he has seen the talent, generosity, and commitment of those who live in Buncombe while also witnessing the under-reported suffering and need. He has seen the challenges we face to create a more livable and workable Buncombe County and is ready to work on county commission to get a better deal for all those who live in our community.
4 Key Issues
- Ethical lapses in county government have siphoned off millions in taxpayer dollars. We need increased transparency.
- Our Tourism Development Authority spends a higher percentage of its budget on advertising than any other tourism board in North Carolina. That has to end.
- The gap between the highest-paid county employees and those at the bottom has grown too large. We need a fairer pay scale for our county government.
- Not-for-profit organizations provide incredibly cost-effective services to our community. Andrew will increase partnerships with these great organizations.
Town Halls
His campaign will start by hosting 4 town hall meetings throughout the county: Monday, Dec. 9, in Asheville at the Wesley Grant, Sr. Southside Center; Thursday, Dec. 12, in Black Mountain at the Lakeview Center; Saturday, Dec. 14, in Enka-Candler at the Library; and Monday, Dec. 16, in Weaverville at the Ox Creek Community Center. These meetings will focus on government accountability and changes to the occupancy tax spent by the Tourism Board. All are welcome.
