Voices in the Laurel Youth Choirs will host auditions for the 2020 Spring Semester
Now in its 24th season, Voices in the Laurel is open to singers in Kindergarten – 12th grades. Kindergarten through 2nd graders may simply register to sing in Treble Makers.
3rd – 12th grade singers are required to pass a musical audition for placement in one of the three choral ensembles. All singers in the program will learn healthy vocal techniques while rehearsing and performing a wide variety of music, including classical, Broadway and movie tunes, popular music, Spirituals, jazz, gospel, and world music. In addition to vocal pedagogy,
choristers have opportunities to learn and perform choreography, sight-singing and a cappella singing.During the 2020 Spring Semester, Voices in the Laurel singers will participate in weekly rehearsals and two concerts, which will feature singers’ individual talent with a showcase of solos. There will also be optional opportunities to sing in the Piedmont Invitational Children’s Choir Festival, and performances of the National Anthem at a WCU basketball game, a Harlem Globetrotters exhibition, and an Atlanta Braves baseball game, and more.
Looking ahead, singers who are accepted for spring semester will be invited to join the Voices in the Laurel Tour Choir and Alumni for the Voices in the Laurel 25th Anniversary Viva La Musica p erformance tour to Italy in the summer of 2021!
Auditions for all Voices in the Laurel choirs will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, or by appointment by calling (828) 564-3310. Interested singers are also invited to participate in open rehearsals The schedule for Jan. 6 open rehearsals are:
• Kindergarten thru 2nd grade: 4:10 – 5:00 p.m. • 3rd– 5th grade Concert Choir: 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. • 6th – 12th Grade Encore Choir : 6:15 – 7:45 p.m.
