Press release from Four Seasons:
Four Seasons Compass Program offers Camp Heart Songs August 3rd – 8th. This grief camp, for those ages 5-18, will be a virtual experience this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Using nature and the world around us, Camp Heart Songs provides an opportunity for children and adolescents to explore and process their grief with peers who also grieve.
Blair Stockton, MS, CCLS, CTP Four Seasons’ Child and Adolescent Grief Coordinator, asserts, “Grief is more present with what is happening in the world. We have experienced drastic changes, isolation, and high levels of uncertainty about the future. For some, this has occurred while grieving the loss of a loved one. We all need to grieve and allow ourselves to embrace what emotions we feel at this time.” The camp will conclude with a celebratory, socially distanced, in-person day camp on August 8th at Montreat Conference Center in Black Mountain.
Camp Heart Songs, funded exclusively by generous donations, is provided at no cost to families. Campers will be immersed in many exciting online activities including cooking, gardening, therapeutic art, science experiments, hiking, exercise, and much more. Campers will receive a box of camp supplies for the entire week and will be sent information on how to join sessions for each experience. There will also be sessions offered for adults to provide resources they can use to support grieving children in their lives.
