Buncombe County Register of Deeds office closed until Wednesday due to COVID-19 case

Declaration from the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners:

WHEREAS, based on public health guidance from the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States Department of Health and Human Services, and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services a number of State and Local declarations of state of emergency have been issued to limit local public gatherings and the operations of specified businesses in an effort to promote social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19.

WHEREAS, by Resolution dated March 12, 2020 a Local State of Emergency was declared activating the local Emergency Management Plan and said order remains in effect.

WHEREAS, a confirmed case of COVID-19 has been detected within Register of Deeds staff and the Register of Deeds has requested that the office be ordered closed for two business days to allow time for decontamination.

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority contained in Ch. 21, Buncombe County Code of Ordinances and Article 1A of the N.C.G.S. Chapter 166A, the Board of Commissioners, do hereby declare and order that the Buncombe County Register of Deeds Office is hereby authorized and directed to close for business on Monday, July 20, 2020 and Tuesday, July 21, 2020.  The Buncombe County Register of Deeds office will reopen beginning Wednesday, July 22, 2020 in order to continue to provide services consistent.

This Declaration is in addition to the Declarations referenced above and should any provision hereof be declared invalid or unconstitutional by any court of any competent jurisdiction, such declaration shall not affect the validity of this Declaration that as a whole or any part thereof which is not specifically declared to be invalid or unconstitutional.
