Juvenile crime prevention programs eligible for $600K in grant funding opportunities

The Buncombe County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) is now accepting proposals for fiscal year 2021-2022. The JCPC announces the availability of small grants totaling more than $600,000 in state funding for local nonprofits and public agencies working to serve delinquent and at-risk youth in our community. The JCPC is seeking innovative projects designed to address the following factors in our community: ·         School Behavior/Adjustment: o   In Buncombe County there has been a decrease in Serious School Behavior Problems from 54% in 2018-2019 to 50% in 2019-2020. However, that is still an increase from 41% in 2016-2017 and 48% in 2017-2018. Buncombe County is also higher than the state rate of 45% in 2019-2020. ·         Substance Abuse Within Past 12 Months: o    In Buncombe County, there has been an 8% increase from 26% in 2018-2019 to 34% in 2019-2020. ·         Abuse/Neglect History: o    In Buncombe County there was a slight increase in victim with support from 22% in 2018-2019 to 23% in 2019-2020. ·         Mental Health Needs: o   In Buncombe County, the percentage of No Mental Health Care Needs Indicated increased from 17% in 2018-2019 to 24% in 2019-2020. Mental Health Care Needs Addressed increased from 48% in 2018-2019 to 50% in 2019-2020.  Application Information Interested organizations are required to complete an online application through NC ALLIES (A Local Link to Improve Effective Services). The Allocations Committee of the Buncombe County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) is responsible for reviewing and allocating funds to programs designed to serve delinquent and at risk youth and reduce the number of youth who enter the state’s youth development centers. Any nonprofits or public agency interested in applying for JCPC funds is required to send a representative to the applicant orientation. Below are the important dates. Important dates: Applicant orientation on Monday, Feb. 15, 9:45 a.m.-noon. This a mandatory orientation for new applicants (prior applicants may also attend). Due to COVID-19 precautions the meeting will take place via Zoom. Applicants will receive an email link. Application submission deadline is Tuesday, March 16, 2021 by 5 p.m. All applications must be submitted in NC Allies and 18 hard copies submitted to Aisha Shepherd at 200 College Street Asheville, 28801 on the 1st floor.  ·         The allocations hearing date will be Wednesday, April 28, 2021, beginning at 8:30 a.m. This meeting will take place via Zoom.
