Asheville, NC (August 2, 2021): Every four years the Asheville Police Department (APD) is required to undergo an assessment to remain accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). This year it will take place the week of August 9-13. As a part of this assessment, community members and APD employees are invited to participate in a virtual public input session on August 10, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. Anyone interested in participating can join the session by calling 855-925-2801 and entering meeting code 3246. Callers wanting to speak can press “*” and then “3” to join the speaker queue.
If you are unable to attend the virtual session, comments can be provided to the assessment team by calling 828-251-4002 on August 10, 2021, between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. In addition, individuals can submit written comments by writing to:

Comments are limited to 3 minutes and must address the APD’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A list of the standards is available here.
The Asheville Police Department has been a fully accredited agency under CALEA since 1994.
