Buncombe County Special Collections (BCSC) at Pack Memorial Library is making temporary changes to operating hours while we complete an upgrade to the fire suppression system.
Effective immediately, work will begin on an upgrade to an archival-specific fire suppression system. The new fire protection system utilizes a clean agent, compressed liquefied gas to extinguish a fire, versus a traditional water system. This will prevent unnecessary damage to the Special Collections from water in the event of a localized fire in that area. “The County currently has a few similar systems in data rooms, but this will be the largest system of this type in any of our facilities,” notes Facilities/Project Manager Ronnie Lunsford. “This is a complicated, yet exciting project that is a great asset to protect the Special Collections for many years to come.”
For the next four weeks BCSC will be available by appointment only Tuesday-Thursday from 3-6 p.m. Call (828) 250-4740 or email packnc@buncombecounty.org to schedule an appointment. We will be open regular hours on Friday and Saturday. Friday hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience.
