From Asheville City Association of Educators:
Asheville High School SGA and ACS Parent Group to Co-Host
On Friday, April 22, at 6:00PM, Asheville City Schools Board of Education candidates will participate in a candidate forum hosted by the Asheville City Association of Educators in partnership with the Asheville City Schools District-Wide Parent Group and the Asheville High School Student Government Association. Nine candidates have declared their intent to run for this position and have been invited to participate with the requirement of completing a candidate questionnaire ahead of time. The forum occurs at a time when an unprecedented coalition of school staff, parents, teachers, and students have been calling for immediate action by the current ACS BOE to stabilize school staffing and enrollment as well as City Schools Superintendent Gene Freeman announcing his retirement. ACAE members will be voting on endorsements thereafter and announcing them on Monday, April 25.
Who: Asheville City Association of Educators, Asheville City Schools District-Wide Parent Group, Asheville High School Student Government Association, ACS BOE candidates
What: Candidate forum for ACS BOE candidates during which each of the co-hosting organizations will ask two questions for a total of six questions
Where: AB-Tech Ferguson Auditorium, 19 Tech Drive, Asheville, NC
When: Friday, April 22, 6:00-7:30PM
Why: For the first time in history, the Asheville City Schools Board of Education will be elected this November. Parents, educators, and students are excited about the long-awaited opportunity to vote and shape our school district for years to come. This candidate forum will provide an important opportunity for constituents to learn about the views of the candidates running.
This forum was a total waste of time for online listeners. It is astonishing that after two years of online interaction (Zoom, Google, etc.) that whoever was responsible for this forum failed entirely to make the audio available to people who tuned in. Total failure.
Meanwhile, I’m aghast that there is virtually no information online regarding the School Board candidates. I’m finding no Web sites, no news stories …. my guess is that the candidates with strong biases are counting on their social networking to deliver votes. Anti public education, or pro.
