ASHEVILLE, NC – Monday, Veterans will have two chances to participate in Memorial Day Ceremonies.
The first will be held at 10 a.m. in the Western North Carolina State Cemetery in Black Mountain. Employees and family members helped others from the community in placing flags on the graves of Veterans May 25.
The second event will be held at 3 p.m. at Pack Square in downtown Asheville. Both events were organized by the City of Asheville Mayor’s Veterans Council. The keynote speaker is Retired Lt. Col. Spencer Hardeway.
Attendees will also hear remarks from Western North Carolina VA Health Care System Executive Director Stephanie Young and City of Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer. Brownie Newman, Chair Buncombe County Commissioners, will also speak.
There will also be Remembrance Readings by Donna Culp and Ted Minnick; Presentation of Memorial Wreaths by Mayor Manheimer and Dr. Vivianne Wersel (representing Gold Star Families), and Al Whitesides, a Navy Vietnam Veteran and Buncombe County Commissioner.
