The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is now offering a sign-on bonus for the next twenty Detention Officer positions that are filled. For individuals who are DOCC certified, the bonus will be $5,000 paid out in three installments:
$1,000 after 30 days and successful completion of FTO training.
$1,000 after 6 months of employment.
$3,000 after 18 months of employment.For individuals who are not DOCC certified and are new to corrections, the hiring bonus is $3,000, paid out in three installments:
$1,000 after 30 days and successful completion of FTO training.
$1,000 after 6 months of employment.

After a recent pay increase, starting pay for Detention Officers at the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is now $22.14 per hour or an annual salary of $48,353.76 (42-hour work week.) After 6 months on the job, the hourly rate increases to $23 per hour.
Detention Officers enjoy all the benefits of full-time positions for Buncombe County Government, which has a very rich benefits package including excellent health care benefits, dental, vision, paid time off, 8% contribution to a 401K after 6-months, and individuals are eligible for a state pension upon completion of the required years of service.
