Press release from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office:
On June 17, 2022 Deputies and Detectives with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Old Haywood Road where they found Billy Ray Moore suffering from severe injuries. Mr. Moore was transported to Mission Hospital and the Sheriff’s Office charged Kristie Wood and Anthony Thomas with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.
Mr. Moore passed away from his injuries on July 10th, subsequently an autopsy was performed on July 14th. Upon completion of the autopsy, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office has obtained additional charges of 1st Degree Murder against Ms. Wood and Mr. Thomas for the death of Billy Ray Moore. Wood and Thomas remain in the Buncombe County Detention Facility and are being held under no bond.
