Asheville Police seeking help in West Asheville motor vehicle fatality investigation

Asheville, NC (Feb. 17, 2023): The Asheville Police Department is investigating a single motor vehicle collision that occurred in west Asheville Sunday during the early morning hours that claimed the life of a passenger.

APD Patrol Officers responded to the scene of the crash near the 260 block of Haywood Road around 2:18 a.m. on Feb. 12. A 2022 Dodge passenger vehicle traveling East on Haywood Road in a reckless manner attempted to turn left at the stop light and ran off the road, then colliding with the side of an unoccupied business building. The vehicle then caught fire.

The driver and two other passengers of the vehicle fled the scene before officers arrived. The front passenger, Teri Quannett Hughes (01/06/1988) remained at the scene due to injury and was transported to Mission Hospital with minor injuries.  Hughes later succumbed to her injuries sustained from the crash on Feb. 14; next of kin have been notified.

APD is still investigating the collision and is asking if anyone has any information about the incident to contact APD at 828-252-1110, or you can send an anonymous tip by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
