Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) is advising all customers that a surge in travel is occurring, and parking areas are becoming, and remaining, very full. Customers are advised to arrive at least two hours before their flights, as they may be directed to overflow lots serviced by airport shuttles. The shuttles run continuously; however, it takes time to make all stops and complete one circuit, so passengers should plan time for this process.
Two temporary overflow lots have been opened to help with surges in demand, and a third temporary overflow parking area will be ready for this weekend’s traffic. If passengers arrive at the airport, and lots are full, they should pull a parking ticket and enter the Daily Lot and proceed to the toll plaza for instructions to access overflow parking (signs at the airport are posted when lots are full to guide passengers). All remote and overflow lots are serviced by the airport shuttle.
The full parking areas are a result of record passenger utilization, and this fast-paced growth is continuing. The airport is moving forward as quickly as possible with the construction of a new 600-space surface parking lot, slated for completion by fall of this year.

While it is fantastic news for our region that there are more air service options here than ever before, the growth creates some challenges. We are tackling the challenges as quickly as possible and will continue to keep our community informed.”
