Interstate 26 closures scheduled this week

Press release from NC DOT:

ASHEVILLE — One section of Interstate 26 East will close for a few nights with traffic diverting to roads with longer green lights, starting Monday. The closures are part of the ongoing Interstate 26 widening project.

I-26 East will close just North of exit 37 (N.C. 146) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning. This allows contract crews to rebuild a crossover and the entrance ramp from Airport Road to I-26 East.

Drivers will follow a detour from exit 37 to U.S. 25, continuing to access I-26 at exit 44 (Fletcher/Mountain Home.)

Crews also plan to close a lane on I-26 West near N.C. 280 on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day.

Start times may be delayed due to high traffic volume. The Integrated Corridor Management System will hold green lights longer to accommodate the additional traffic on the detour routes.

Transportation officials remind drivers to slow down, obey all posted signs and remain alert while driving in work zones.
