Press release from Braver Angels WNC:
The WNC branch of the national Braver Angels organization is hosting a discussion on Parents and school boards: How can they work together? On Jan 20 at Skyland United Methodist Church. If you are interested in knowing more, please reach out to Todd Lester, tlester@braverangels.org
Parents and school boards: How can they work together?
Parents and school boards are united in their desire for a quality education and a safe learning environment for students. But considering recent NC state legislation, public education is on the frontline of political polarization.
Parents are attending school board meetings to voice their concerns about curriculum appropriateness and how they are notified regarding their children’s physical and mental health. Students are frustrated they can’t just focus on learning, teachers are afraid of becoming targets, and school board officials are challenged to implement state law while not running afoul of federal law.
Braver Angels WNC is sponsoring a moderated discussion which aims to understand differences, to identify areas of agreement and to gather questions for further exploration. All participants from across the ideological spectrum are welcome and will have an opportunity to speak. Tell us what you have experienced and what you think.
This free event will take place Saturday, January 20th 10am- 12pm, at Skyland United Methodist Church, 1984 Hendersonville Rd., Asheville, 28803. No membership or ticket is required. However, RSVP appreciated at wncalliance@braverangels.org.
