Asheville Breakfast Rotary Club installs international peace pole at the Center for Honeybee Research

News release from the Asheville Breakfast Rotary Club:

Members of Asheville Breakfast Rotary Club gathered Sunday, August 18, to install and commemorate an international Peace Pole at the Center for Honeybee Research in Asheville. The Peace Pole displays the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” which is written in several languages on the pole, including English. The installation of peace poles has been a project of Rotary International for more than seven years. The concept was derived from the installation of the Peace Poles that appeared in Japan in 1955, shortly after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Peace Poles are designed to inspire unity among people of all cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds. This affirmation of peace aligns with Rotary’s goal of building a culture of peace throughout the world.

The Asheville Breakfast Rotary Club was founded in 1986. As a chapter of Rotary International, the club subscribes to the four-way test, plus one, that defines what its members think, say, and do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
  5. Let’s have fun!

The club meets at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, 22 Woodfin Street Asheville, NC, on Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. For information on how to be a guest at an upcoming meeting, contact Patrick Blackburn, membership chair, or Watson Jordan, president, at ashevillerotarybreakfast.org.
