LEAF Global Arts and all of Western North Carolina are facing immeasurable losses and challenges in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Our region was hit with devastating floods, landslides, and downed trees, leading to loss of power, running water, roadways, and communication systems, as well as loss of vehicles, homes, and — most devastatingly — lives.
The good news is that the LEAF crew and our families are all safe and accounted for. Some evacuated from precarious situations while many others are still in the area, taking things day by day. Right now, our main priority is caring for our community and making sure our loved ones and neighbors have their basic needs met.
We know there are many questions about LEAF Global Arts Festival, scheduled for October 17-20. Plans are in flux. We do know the festival will take on a different form than planned; we’re still working on the details. Communication is limited as internet and cell signal are spotty, but rest assured we’re working to formulate a Plan B and will share next steps as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience!
For those seeking refunds, we do not currently have the infrastructure to process credits and refunds — so many systems are down. We will update you as soon as we’re able to process refunds or vouchers for future LEAF events.
We have created the LEAF Global Arts Artist Relief Fund to support LEAF’s teaching and performing artists who are cut off from gigs and so cannot earn a living. We will also be teaming up with DrumSTRONG, a charitable organization partnering with us on World Drum Day, and who has dedicated their 2024 fundraising to help LEAF and Western North Carolina. If you are able to donate to the LEAF Global Arts Artist Relief Fund or the DrumSTRONG, we’re so grateful.
