Harris Teeter supports community recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene in Hendersonville

Press release from Harris Teeter:

Matthews, NC — Harris Teeter is taking action to support those affected by Hurricane Helene in Hendersonville, N.C. The company is donating unaffected products from our Hendersonville store and providing immediate healthcare assistance through a mobile pharmacy unit.

Harris Teeter’s store in Hendersonville, N.C. was damaged by Hurricane Helene. The company does not have an anticipated re-opening date. While a majority of the product was damaged, Harris Teeter’s leadership, in collaboration with regulatory health agencies, successfully salvaged 60 bins of safe-to-consume items. All 60 bins will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, which is working closely with local food banks to address immediate food needs and support those affected in all impacted areas.

Additionally, to address immediate healthcare needs, Harris Teeter is deploying a mobile pharmacy unit to the area, which will open later this week. This unit will assist patients in accessing medications and healthcare services, ensuring continuity of care during this critical time.

When: Oct. 6, 2024; 1:00 – 3:00 PM
Where: Southside Square – 636 Spartanburg Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28792

Who: Harris Teeter spokesperson available for interviews

Planning Notes:

  • Product Donation: The scheduled timeframe for product pickup is between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Monday. While we cannot confirm the exact pickup time until that day, media crews are welcome to either wait for the pickup or arrive at 1:00 PM to capture b-roll footage of the bins filled with product prior to pick up. While there’s a possibility that the pickup may occur right at 1:00 PM, we cannot guarantee it.

  • Product will not be distributed to community members on-site. Instead, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina will distribute to affected areas through other channels.
