Being a band with a gimmick is nothing new. Prince had the symbol and the purple suits. Elton John had the sunglasses. Kiss had the WWE makeup. But Asheville-based Speedsquare skipped the fancy dress altogether. Their thing is that they busk (in fact, their recent cross-country tour included playing upright piano and drum kit on the streets of over 20 cities).
Now, on the heels of their two-CD release and just back from the road, Speedsquare is gearing up for a homecoming show on Friday, Aug. 24. And (surprise!) it’s indoors. But that won’t stop the duo from rolling their piano up the sidewalk (just like they’ve been doing for the past month) and straight into the New French Bar (at 10 p.m.).
Check out video from Speedsquare’s trip here. A documentary is reportedly in the works.
