The Double Crown will be providing the spirits, and the Legendary Singing Stars to bring the soul.
The gospel group, formed in the ‘60s by the late Tommy Ellison, will bring its classic R&B-informed sound to West Asheville on July 11. The Brooklyn-based group combines the harmonious melodies of traditional American gospel with the pop rhythms and electric instrumentation of R&B, infusing the age-old spiritual tradition with a modern backbone.
The Stars have soldiered on for more than 50 years, despite the deaths of founding lead vocalist Ellison in 2009 and singer-guitarist Dennis Bowers in 2010. The Stars’ use of intricate vocal harmonies and energetic choreography make them a group you need to be see to believe. And what better place than an intimate setting like the Double Crown? The group is virtually guaranteed to rock the bar to its foundations as they preach the only way they know how — with electric guitar in hand.
