Go forth for the Fourth
This year, the Fourth of July falls on a Monday, which means there’s a whole long weekend leading up to it. More days to practice your sparkler dance, select your red, white and blue outfit and perfect your grilling technique. Once you’ve reached your personal peak of patriotic perfection, you’ll need someplace to strut your […]
Roots and wings
Early on Halo of Blue, the new album by local singer/songwriter Kellin Watson, a duo of songs — "Swagger" and "Control" — makes short work of showcasing Watson's own swagger and control. The Lexington, Ky., musician may resemble a math tutor but he can captivate an audience from the first note. (During this year's HATCH […]

Getting to know the Bele Chere bands
Now that the entire Bele Chere lineup has been announced, we thought we’d introduce you to a handful of the bands each day. Most of today’s group is all local (like Kovacs & the Polar Bear, seen here) and of those, two formed within the last year. Party band Mambo Sauce is from Washington, D.C. and world-fusion group Mamarazzi comes from Brooklyn.
