The Asheville Area Arts Council hosted the Tangerine Ball at the Orange Peel on Saturday, Sept. 15. Attendees were decked out in their finest tangerine outfits. The theme was 1920s, with a hint of Great Gatsby, a dash of burlesque and all that jazz. Check out photos from the night.

Early Girl Eatery Gets Down for Bob Moog’s birthday
In celebration of Bob Moog, the Bob Moog Foundation and Early Girl Eatery joined together and threw quiet the birthday bash on Wednesday, May 23. There was synth music by Marc Doty, a raffle and delicious food, of course. Early Girl donated 20 percent of restaurant profits to the Bob Moog Foundation. The restaurant was buzzing with conversation about the musical innovator, Moog, and the foundation that shares his ideas with the world. Here are some photos from the party.
Mardi Gras in the Rain
The Asheville Mardi Gras Parade kicked off the party on Wall Street Sunday afternoon. Everyone in the parade was dressed from head to toe in colorful outfits. The streets were filled with dancing and cheering despite the drizzling rain. The theme of this year’s celebration was “The Royal Wedding.” There were “Royal Wedding Bridesmaids” with crazy hats, masks and beads, and even a real wedding. John ‘Hobbit’ Hawes and Tamra Fountain tied the knot and waved to the crowds from the top of a wedding cake parade float.
Valentine’s Day Party Favors
These two well-dressed ladies handed out holiday supplies to couples around downtown Asheville. Pink and red gift bags included chocolate and condoms.

Fabulous regional storytellers presented their favorites this past weekend at the Flat Rock Playhouse during the third annual Do Tell Storyfest. The expressive and capturing tellers lit up the room, with tales from President Lincoln to first love.
Akron/Family and Bad Weather California
Akron/Family and Bad Weather California lit up the stage at The Grey Eagle on Sunday, Jan. 8. The two groups made the crowd jump when they came through Asheville. First Bad Weather California hit with melodic indie-rock and a surf-pop undertone, followed by Akron/Family’s experimental harmonic spunky rock.
“The First Time I Ever…” by Asheville Playback Theatre
The Asheville Playback Theatre held a couple performances at N.C. Stage over the weekend. On Saturday, Jan. 7, the crew of six helped to showcase personal stories presented by volunteers from the audience with the overall theme “The First Time I Ever.” Using improvisation and comedy, the troupe reenacted comical and heartfelt first times.
