Buncombe County approves tech park, veteran treatment court, fire district changes
At the Tuesday, Nov. 3 Buncombe County Board of Commissioners meeting, the Board voted on a new technology park in North Asheville, a Fairview rezoning, a specialized treatment court for veterans and changes to the county’s fire and ambulance rescue districts.
Young, Haynes and Mayfield win seats on Asheville City Council
While early voting results showed candidates Julie Mayfield, Keith Young and Marc Hunt in the lead, results quickly moved all up and down the board. Ultimately, Vice Mayor Hunt lost his bid for re-election, and Young, Haynes and Mayfield (in that order) won Ashevilleans’ votes and the three City Council seats.

Flat Iron sculpture gets a sweater
The stealthy stitchers of Purl’s Yarn Emporium are at it again. On Wednesday, Oct. 21, Wall Street was transformed with knit and crochet creations. As with their installations last spring and fall, the stitchers will be adorning many fixtures along the quaint street. This fall, however, they have added a much larger target to their yarn-bombing: the Flat Iron sculpture.
Buncombe rethinks county fire and rescue districts
“The goal is simple: to simplify and consolidate,” explained County Attorney Michael Frue. “Everyone needs to understand that there is no service change. There is no change in tax rate. We have 35 service districts for 20 tax districts. That’s the mess we’re trying to correct.”
