A-B Tech Community College announces vaccine incentive program for students

Press release from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College

A-B Tech announced today that fully vaccinated students will receive $150 gift cards for purchases in its college bookstore. The program will be implemented during A-B Tech’s annual New Student Welcome Day on Thursday, Aug. 5, from 3-6 p.m. The Buncombe County Department of Health and Human Services also will be on hand to administer free vaccines during the event.

Students who are enrolled in any of the college’s academic, continuing education, or workforce programs are eligible for the vaccine incentive program. They must be registered and present a valid college or government ID and proof of vaccination at the Bailey Student Services Center on A-B Tech’s main campus in Asheville beginning Aug. 5 through Oct. 15.

Students and prospective students who plan to participate in New Student Welcome Day should bring their vaccination card or a photograph of the card as proof of their fully vaccinated status. The event will be held at the Bailey Student Services Center on A-B Tech’s main campus in Asheville.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), people are deemed fully vaccinated with two doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“We hope to encourage more students to get fully vaccinated as we prepare to return to in-person fall classes,” said Vice President of Student Services Terry Brasier. “The college fortunately has COVID-19 emergency relief funds that are available for this purpose.”

Very short sighted. There will probably be another pandemic and it will be very difficult to get people to get their vaccine shots. Why get the shot as soon as the vaccine is available? The longer one waits, the greater the reward when you do get the shot. People will be lined up in the halls outside the ICU because they were holding out until they would be paid $1,000.00.
