Residents in rural communities rely on family practice providers like the ones at Celo. But recruiting doctors to rural areas in Western North Carolina can be challenging.
“Rural isn’t always a good fit for everyone. Sometimes people like night life and restaurants and things like that,” said Chris Collins, director of the Office of Rural Health and Community Care for North Carolina. “On the other hand, you are a community leader. You are the doctor. In those communities, you will be able to make a big difference.”
