AC-T: Buncombe school board considers Enka property purchase

Here’s the excerpt from the Asheville Citizen-Times article:

ASHEVILLE The Enka school district came one step closer Thursday night to getting a long-awaited intermediate school for fifth and sixth-graders that supporters say will relieve overcrowding in three area schools.

The Buncombe County Board of Education approved a recommendation at their regular monthly meeting to consider the purchase of 22 acres off Sand Hill Road, agreeing to look into the site originally proposed almost three years ago for an Enka Intermediate school. …

The board voted 5 -1 in favor of the motion. Board member Lisa Baldwin voted against it, citing concerns that there were “too many unanswered questions” and that there may be contamination issues around the property, which is about one mile from an inactive hazardous waste site.
